The Great Cosmic Mother

The Great Cosmic Mother

“…The day will come when each woman on earth will understand her sacred mission as a Daughter and Priestess of the Mother of the World. Mother to Christ and Buddhas. May our dedication be an inspiration for all women to heed Her Call and embrace their true destiny, then the Mother’s Blessing and Healing will envelop the entire Earth. Answering the Call of the Mother, let us offer Her our bodies and souls.”  Tara

“Christianity, Hinduism, the Muslim faith and other great world faiths all teach that there exists a Being here on our earth Who embodies in perfection all the highest attributes of the Feminine Aspect of both the creative Deity and the human race, including human motherhood. She is the all-compassionate One who gazes with infinite tenderness and concern upon life on earth.” - Geoffrey Hodson

In her original spiritual role, the Great Mother is considered the ancient milky cosmic substance from which all was created. Understanding that the Divine has no gender, most origin stories begin with this feminine cosmic fluid environment out of which our entire world was created. Perhaps a reference to the Milky Way?

The Great Cosmic Mother is also the sacred Life Force in all things, our chi or kundalini. It is She Who Creates from Her Own Source, all that is, was, and shall be. The Mother of the World can be thought of as an aspect of the Sacred Mother, a changing role that is filled with feminine Buddhas and goddesses who transform over time with characteristics necessary for the healing and advancement of humanity in each era. She is also the wife of the Planetary Lord, Sanat Kumara, every goddess has her mate.
Willendorf Venus
We find ancient images and stories of the cosmic mother goddess all around the world. She was worshiped and adored by almost all ancient peoples. She represents, in the physical world, the continuity of humanity, the life giving mother, the continuation of the species, nourishment, fertility and comfort.

We can meditate on the Mother of the World, accessing her easily through our hearts. In her aspect as Tara, she is compassion, caring and mercy combined.  It is taught that she voluntarily remains close to humanity and watches over us, her name means “she who hears the cries of the world”. She has chosen to bear witness to humanity until all of humanity evolves into divine beings.

 Veil of the mother

Psychics and sensitive people know well the protective layer that divides our daily lives from the astral and etheric energies that swirl around this planet. We often refer to someone who has died as “passing on” of “being beyond the veil”. Places like Glastonbury in England, Avalon in particular are described as being areas where the it is easy to pass from reality to another world. Halloween is a time the space between worlds is also very thin. This layer or “veil” between worlds has been known for a long time by the hermetic students, they call it: the veil of the Mother.  It protects us from astral illusions and confusion by a fine curtain of cosmic energy. This veil is much like the ozone layer that protects our planet from cosmic debris. If we choose to go beyond this veil, we need to have a focused destination and secure our way back. In assisting the dying we are often tempted to go beyond. It is dangerous to do this, we can go too far, and we can easily get lost.

In spiritual work, we can mediate on this phenomenon and learn much from the writings of those who have traveled there. We can lift the veil if we are focused, by ritual or in prayer. The light from the beginning of time shines through all these layers of creation and we need only follow it to its source.

 Connection with the Pleiades

The Pleiades star cluster is found close to the constellation of Taurus, it is seen as a spring and autumnal 'seasonal' grouping of stars in both the northern and southern hemispheres. The Pleiadian star system is one of the most revered cosmic objects in human history. Esoteric teachings say that there is a feminine energy emanating from this constellation. In the Vedas these seven stars are called the seven sisters. These stars have been referred to by many names, such as the seven wives of the seven stars of the Great Bear, the companions of Artemis, a flock of Doves, Hens,  the Virgins of Spring, the Sailor's Stars and seven tribal maidens. The Pleiades were known as Seven Sisters by indigenous people in North America, Siberia and Australia and this common heritage means this myth is very ancient, perhaps prehistoric. The Pleiades are among the first stars mentioned in astronomical literature, appearing in the Chinese annuls of 2357 BC.

It is currently thought that the Sun is also in motion, around some other and vastly mightier centre. Astronomers are not fully agreed as to what or where that centre is. Some however believe that they have found the direction of it to be the Pleiades, and particularly Alcyone.  Alcyone, then, as far as science can perceive, would seem to be the "midnight throne" around which the whole system of gravitation has a central point.

Professor Charles Piazzi Smyth, Astronomer Royal for Scotland from 1846 to 1888, suggested that that the seven chambers of the Great Pyramid of Giza commemorate these seven stars. Esoteric teachings say this star cluster is the heart and center of our Cosmos containing our Spiritual Sun. Many ancient traditions state that Alcyone is the Central Spiritual Sun, the Mother Sun that emits creative Light, that which gives birth to the great teachers of Light in the world.

Oral tradition tells us Mary Magdalene was an Initiate of the Cult of Isis. Isis was the most venerated Egyptian goddess of Egypt at that time - the Creatress from whom all arose. The sign of Isis is a circle with horns exactly like the sign of Taurus. Her dance is the dance of the seven veils, which corresponds with the seven stars of the Pleiades.

Her star

Venus was known to ancient civilizations both as the "morning star" and as the "evening star", names that reflect their early understanding that these were two not separate objects. It rises just before the sun and is a harbinger of the day to come.

The 16th century Italian physicist Galileo Galilei observed that Venus showed phases like the Moon. When Venus is furthest from the Sun in the sky it shows a half-lit phase and when it is closest to the Sun in the sky it shows as a crescent or full phase. This could be possible only if Venus orbited the Sun, and Galilei was among the first to observe this clearly.

The Venus tablet of Ammisaduqa, dated 1581 BC, shows that the Babylonians understood that these two planetary observations were a single object. The Greeks thought of the two as separate stars, Phosphorus and Hesperus, until the time of Pythagoras in the sixth century BC. The Romans designated the morning aspect of Venus as Lucifer, literally "Light-Bringer", and Vesper the evening side of this star.

It is at the time of observation of the Morning Star that most disciples meditate, it is thought to be the quietest and best time to receive enlightenment of the day. Thus the morning star, or bringer of light, brings us inner vision too.

White sisterhood

Just as there is a white brotherhood there is also a lineage of priestesses that span the whole of human history. It is only in this last age of Pisces that the feminine role of the Great Mother has been occulted and seemingly lost.

Her teachings are all around us, she is hidden in plain sight. She can be found in churches, in taverns, in water sources and in the sky. Her symbols are in the names of plants like ladies mantle and in cooking recipes our grandmothers kitchens, healing the spirit.

She is here, let us be assured, she has never left our side and when humanity as a group is ready and begins to look for her, she will lift her veil and become visible to us. The time is near and her daughters are preparing themselves once more.

Mother Nature

Mother Nature is a good example of the powers of the Goddess; these energies can be as nurturing as they much as they can be devastating. Think of the burst of beauty in Spring flowers and the devastating power of hurricanes as they sweep across the land. Every student of the occult knows that there has to be death and destruction in order to make way for the young and the new. The old god must die in the fall so the babe can be born in the manger. Mother Nature is one aspect of the Cosmic Mother that we all know and learn from every day. She wields the powers of SOLVE and COAGULA, and is an example for us to learn the same.

Silence

For the moment, we still need to respect the silence of her temple in order to focus and learn, we need calm and quiet.  In meditation, much will be given to us. We can learn to listen to our hearts and guides in order to glean the meaning of what we study.  As the Zen saying goes: When the student is ready, the master will appear.

On whatever path we choose to walk, we will find the call to study and serve. We are expected to evolve by learning to better ourselves. This process can be considered the death of the lower self, the demise of the personality. This is done so a new life can begin, a life that leads to the awareness of the Spirit. Her time has not yet come, although her book has been written in the stars long ago. Let silence guide you through her temple.

Each Woman’s Spiritual Journey

The Mother of the World is often a nebulous concept and hard for us to define personally, being neither goddess nor woman but both. Her veil is less of a wall but a doorway that we pass at birth and at death. She is a magnificent transformer, taking into herself all the woes and sorrows of our existence and transmuting them into the pearls and diamonds of our spiritual and personal awakening.

It is time women had the blueprint for their own spiritual path, a spiritual journey they can choose to celebrate with their families and friends and thus learn to nurture themselves and their children.

Obviously modern women cannot seclude themselves in cloisters to pray as our sisters before us, or abandon themselves to visions, however we can become aware of the impact of the divine in our lives, that we are being called to be channels for the Sacred. The ancient path of initiation and ritual work was solitary and strict. Today we can experience this same journey another way, we can live a year of spiritual awakening in the celebrations that will renew our faith in humanity, that will allow us to look at the world in a whole new light.

Our spiritual work as modern women in this new age of Aquarius is to figure out what the positive aspects of the feminine are  and, in turn,  bring them forward so humanity can see the peaceful, loving and compassionate side of  feminine creation. Our calling is to bring peace, self-awareness and love to this planet that is in such dire need. However, we cannot do this alone and we cannot do this if we have not first worked on our own evolution.

This study offers a journey through the zodiac that will give us an better understanding, one the ancients had of the divine year, and from this we can construct a new path to the future. Sophia, divine wisdom, will be our guide.

A Call to All Women from Tara:

As women, our first task is to help, to heal, to awaken and stimulate the feminine energies in ourselves and all around us. Only then we can bring the male and female energies into balance in ourselves with grace. At the beginning of this new age of Aquarius, we are able to get a glimpse, a taste,  of what is to come by working these new streams of energy. We are already feeling the coming age of equilibrium and harmony in the unity between men and women, this promises the creation of a new community for all mankind. For many of us it is our calling to work towards this realization. Each good thought, word of encouragement, sincere praise and kind deed planted in the common consciousness of humanity will bear its fruit.

This study of the zodiac in a year focuses on the northern hemisphere of our planet. Most of the spiritual concepts here apply to the whole world, however the images used are strictly set to the northern seasons – we can look forward to the day when there will be a feminine calendar for the southern hemisphere based perhaps on the ancients of that world, the priest and priestesses of Inca land the Mayan lineage.

In conclusion, we know and realize our modern world has too much poverty, many ecological disasters, countless wars and conflicts that are raging daily. Just as tremendous snowstorms, earthquakes and hurricanes flail the planet, so, we can see the reactive energies trying to do their utmost in a last attempt to block the waves of energy brought in by this New Era. These new energies have already started washing over us, changing and transforming human consciousness in unprecedented ways. Here you are invited to explore the future from the clues left to us from the past symbols and learn the mystical Feminine hidden story that lies within the Zodiac.
